Why Do I Practice Personal Injury Law?
My first job after graduating law school in 1993 was with a large firm that represented insurance companies. I had a terrific boss and mentor who worked tirelessly for his clients. During that employment, my legal assistant’s good friend was involved in an accident. Our firm only represented insurance companies and no one seemed enthused to help this accident victim’s family. My assistant asked if I would help them and I agreed to do so. Throughout that representation, I discovered that my passion was more for the accident victim than the insurance companies representing those responsible. I learned more about myself and what I wanted to do in the future. Working for that large firm taught me a great deal about the right way to practice law, however, I realized that the insurance companies’ side was not for me.
After a thoughtful search, I found the perfect place to land with an experienced lawyer representing accident victims and have been representing accident victims ever since. What I enjoy most about this profession is the opportunity to help people who are dealing with real life crises and fighting against sophisticated entities. It has allowed me to meet hundreds, if not thousands, of wonderful families and continue in a busy practice without ever having a single advertisement.
What Makes The Rosenberg & Calvin Law Firm Right for You?
Whether our firm is right for you is a personal decision. However, I believe that this firm is uniquely qualified to guide accident victims through the confusing and intimidating insurance claim and litigation process. At this firm, we start with a face-to-face meeting. We want to learn what has happened, how it is impacting your life, and offer advice as to how we can help throughout the process. After that meeting, if a potential client wishes to engage us, we enter into a contingency fee agreement. We are only paid if we make a recovery.
Once a client chooses to hire Rosenberg Calvin P. A., we work together to ensure that the legal system address any issues that have been caused by the accident. We do this through constant communication and by putting our client’s best interest first. We do not have case managers that handle our client’s cases. At Rosenberg Calvin P. A., a lawyer meets with you and is your primary contact from the first day through the last. Even when the case has concluded, our relationships with our clients typically continue.
What Kinds of Cases Have I Handled?
Having practiced law since 1993, I have seen just about every type of injury case. There was a time when our practice was more diverse but the longer that I have practiced, the more I have come to realize that it is best to focus on more specific areas. Over the last 8 to 10 years, Rosenberg Calvin P.A. has focused primarily on motor vehicle collisions, including car and truck accidents, and premises liability cases where someone is injured on the property of another. We represent people with catastrophic permanent injuries and we represent people with less long lasting injuries. We are dedicated to treat all cases with the same degree of attention because every client’s loss is important. When we meet someone for their first time, they are still recovering from their accident and we don’t know how they will heal. Our goal is to achieve a fair result for each client relative to the impact the accident has had or will have on their life.
What is Your Educational Background?
I was an accounting major at the University of Florida, graduating in the late 1980’s. After working for an international public accounting firm for two years, I returned to law school at the University of Florida, graduating in 1993. I feel that my accounting background is extremely helpful to my clients as I work through their economic damages. Much of the compensation we seek on behalf of our clients are their medical expenses and lost wages. Often with other firms, calculating the present value of these losses and analyzing business records and tax returns is often farmed out to expert witnesses who charge high costs which are in addition to the attorney’s fee. My accounting background allows me to do this analysis as part of our contingency fee a great majority of the time which results in our clients receiving better net results.
What Distinguishes You From Other Lawyers?
I have been told over and over again by my clients that they appreciate my patience and the fact that I am looking out for them over myself. I truly want my clients to do well in each case. I am very aware that any cost I incur will come directly from my client’s recovery. For this reason, I am intentional about spending money where it is needed but not unless it is needed. I also frequently adjust my fees to enhance my client’s recovery, particularly, in circumstances where there is limited insurance available to compensate my clients for their losses.
In terms of recognition by my peers, I have been AV rated by Martindale Hubbell for nearly 25 years, I have been recognized as Legal Elite by Florida Trend Magazine, and I am been voted a Super Lawyer on an annual basis including 2023.
What do You do When You are not Practicing Law?
In my spare time, I enjoy spending time with my family, traveling, and going to sporting events. I am active in the community. I teach Sunday school and mentor at risk children. I support several charities in town including The Sanctuary on Eighth Street, the Sulzbacher Center, Feeding Northeast Florida, the Downtown Ecumenical Services Counsel, The Northeast Florida Community Foundation, the Children’s Miracle Network, and the Wolfson’s Children’s Hospital.
